A creditors' petition to wind up Albert D Wellington Ltd, the RICS surveying practice at 52 Lee Terrace, is listed at the High Court on 19 August. The firm can oppose it.
A Blackheath firm of chartered building surveyors is facing a petition to wind it up at the High Court, with the hearing listed for Wednesday 19 August. A notice in The London Gazette, the official public record, states that the petition against Albert D Wellington Limited was presented on 3 July by two creditors of the company, and will be heard at 10:30am at the Rolls Building on Fetter Lane, case number CR-2026-005185.
Albert D Wellington Limited trades as ADW Chartered Building Surveyors from The Lodge at 52 Lee Terrace, on the Lewisham side of Blackheath. The Gazette notice, published on 31 July, also records a previous address at Regus House, 132 Lewisham High Street. The firm is listed as a regulated practice with the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, and its own website offers building surveys, condition surveys, snagging inspections, home buyers reports, party wall services, valuations and project management. The company was incorporated in October 2010, so it has traded for nearly 16 years.
A petition, not a judgment
A winding-up petition is a claim by creditors that a debt has gone unpaid; it is not a finding by the court, and no order had been made against the company as of 11 August. Albert D Wellington Limited remains listed as active on the Companies House register, with its latest accounts filed for the year to 31 October 2025, and its website was operating as normal this week with no reference to the petition. The company is entitled to oppose the petition at the hearing, and petitions of this kind are sometimes withdrawn or dismissed before they are decided, for example where the debt is settled or genuinely disputed.
The Gazette notice sets out the formal steps. Any creditor or contributory of the company who wants to appear at the hearing, to support or oppose the petition, must give notice to the petitioners’ solicitors, Charles Lyndon of 110 Cannon Street, by 4:30pm on Monday 17 August. If the court grants the petition on 19 August, a winding-up order is made, the Official Receiver takes control of the company and its affairs are wound up; if the court is not satisfied, it can dismiss or adjourn the petition.
What it means for you
If you have a survey, home buyers report or party wall matter under way with the firm, nothing changes automatically: a petition does not stop a company trading, and only a court order would put its affairs in the hands of the Official Receiver. It is sensible to keep copies of your paperwork and to watch the Gazette entry and the Companies House record for the outcome of the hearing. Anyone who believes they are owed money by the company can seek advice about appearing at the hearing under the process in the notice.
