One station gives you Southeastern trains to four central London terminals and the DLR straight through Greenwich to Canary Wharf and Bank. The quick version
Lewisham station sits on the TfL zone 2/3 boundary and is served by Southeastern on the main line side and the DLR on the other. In normal service the fastest trains reach London Bridge in 7 minutes, Cannon Street in 11 and Charing Cross in 17, and there is a direct but slower route to Victoria. The DLR gets you to Canary Wharf in about 17 minutes without touching zone 1 at all.

Where the trains go, and how long they take
London Bridge (for the City and the Jubilee and Northern lines)
The workhorse route. Trainline’s route data shows around 278 trains a day between Lewisham and London Bridge, averaging about 13 minutes with the fastest at 7 minutes, first train around 04:20 and the last around 23:35 (Trainline). It is only about 4 miles, which is why the fastest run is barely longer than the DLR takes to reach Greenwich.
What it means for you: for most City offices, changing at London Bridge onto the Jubilee or Northern line beats almost any other route in, and the sheer frequency means you rarely wait long.
Cannon Street (for the City on foot)
Around 100 trains a day, averaging about 17 minutes with the fastest at 11 minutes; first train around 04:25, last around 23:23 (Trainline). If your desk is walkable from Cannon Street, this is the no-changes option.
Charing Cross (for the West End and Whitehall)
Around 137 trains a day, averaging about 19 minutes, fastest 17 minutes; first around 04:21 and the last back conveniently late, around 00:22 (Trainline). Note the August 2026 closure in the box above: until 17 August these trains run to London Bridge or divert to Blackfriars.
Victoria (direct, but the slow scenic route)
There is a direct Southeastern service to Victoria, around 42 trains a day averaging about 23 minutes, fastest 18 minutes (Trainline). It is the least frequent of the four; for the West End it is usually quicker to change at London Bridge unless a Victoria train is due.
The DLR: Canary Wharf, Greenwich, Bank and Stratford
Lewisham is the southern terminus of the DLR, with trains to Bank, Canary Wharf and Stratford (TfL). TfL’s journey planner puts Lewisham to Canary Wharf at about 17 minutes and Lewisham to Bank at about 28 to 29 minutes, direct in both cases, with peak trains every few minutes.
What it means for you: if you work in Canary Wharf, the DLR is the answer, and because the journey never enters zone 1 it is also the cheapest commute in this guide at £2.30 peak. For Bank, compare on the day: the DLR is direct but the train plus a change at London Bridge is often quicker.
What it costs in 2026
Lewisham station is in zone 2/3 (TfL lists it as “Zone 2+3”), and the fares below are the adult Oyster and contactless rates that took effect on 1 March 2026. Peak fares apply Monday to Friday 06:30 to 09:30 and 16:00 to 19:00, though for the zone 1 rail singles below TfL’s fare finder applies the peak rate in the morning peak only (TfL fares).

What it means for you: a five-day-a-week commuter into zone 1 pays at most the weekly cap, so a Lewisham commute into town costs roughly £45 to £53 a week depending on which zones your journeys touch; check your own journey in TfL’s fare finder because Lewisham’s boundary position often puts the cheaper zones 1-2 rate within reach. Two pieces of good news are locked in: TfL has frozen Travelcard prices, and with them the daily and weekly caps, until March 2027, and no single PAYG fare rose by more than 20p in the March 2026 change (TfL). One caveat: caps and Travelcards do not cover Southeastern’s high-speed services, which do not call here anyway.

Lewisham is rated step-free category A, with step-free access to all platforms via lifts, and staff assistance is available from first to last train (National Rail). At the time of writing National Rail carries a notice that the platform 4 lift is out of use, with Blackheath flagged as the nearest step-free alternative while it is fixed, so check the station page before you rely on that lift.
