Bannatyne Health Club on Marvels Lane has opened three padel courts that anyone can book through the Playtomic app: £30 a court off-peak, £40 at peak, rackets £5 to hire.

Lewisham borough has its own padel courts. Bannatyne Health Club Grove Park, at 35 Marvels Lane, SE12 9PN, has opened three courts, and its own padel page says non-members can book them.

Grove Park is in the south-east of the borough, about four miles from Lewisham town centre and under a mile from Grove Park station on the Southeastern line.

Prices and how to book

The club publishes its court fees in full:

Split four ways, that is £7.50 or £10 a head. The club warns that “if fewer than 4 players are booked, you will be required to pay the ‘per court’ price”. Bannatyne members get 10 per cent off.

The practical rules from the same page:

  • Booking is through the Playtomic app: search the location, pick the club, choose a slot. Non-members can book up to 28 days ahead, members 30
  • Racket hire is £5 with a £10 deposit; rackets and balls are also sold at reception
  • Cancel more than 48 hours before the slot and there is no charge; inside 48 hours the booking fee is taken
  • Players must be 16 or over, or supervised by an adult
  • Court shoes only, no studs or spikes
  • Introductory and social sessions are booked through the “Academy” section of the app

What we could and could not verify

The prices, court count, booking rules and non-member access above are the club’s own published terms. Two things we could not confirm from a first-party source, so we have left them out: whether the courts are covered, and the date they opened. The club’s main Grove Park page still says the courts are “coming soon”, while its padel page is headed “Padel Courts Now Open!” and takes bookings. If you are travelling to play, check availability in the app first.

The same club page lists opening hours of 6am to 10pm on weekdays and 8am to 8pm at weekends and bank holidays, a 20-metre pool, and a recently refurbished changing room with new lockers, showers and toilets.

What it means for you

  • You do not need to join a gym to play. Download Playtomic, find Bannatyne Grove Park, and book. Bring three friends or expect to pay the whole court fee.
  • Weekday mornings and afternoons are the cheap slots. Before 4pm on a weekday it is £30; every weekend hour is £40.
  • Beginners are catered for. Padel is played in doubles on an enclosed court with glass walls that stay in play, with an underarm serve. The club’s intro sessions are the low-risk way in.
