Every Lewisham borough food business rated in July 2026 got the top hygiene score of 5, from the Stage Door Cafe on Catford Broadway to the Railway Tavern in Bellingham and school kitchens in Lee and Deptford. 20 ratings, no fails.

Every food business in the borough of Lewisham that received a hygiene rating in July scored the maximum 5, “very good”. The Food Standards Agency’s public register lists 20 ratings dated July 2026 for the Lewisham local authority area, and not one came in below the top mark. The figures come from the FSA’s register, which records every rating issued under the national Food Hygiene Rating Scheme. Ratings dated July 2026 were retrieved on 6 August; the council adds results as inspections are processed, so a few late July visits may still appear. Twenty ratings is a quiet month for a borough whose register lists around 2,500 food businesses, but a month with no score below 5 is a clean sweep worth recording.

Pubs, cafes and the Catford Broadway

The month’s most recent rating went to the Stage Door Cafe at 28 Catford Broadway, rated 5 on 27 July. Two south-of-the-borough pubs were inspected on the same day, 10 July, and both kept top marks: the Railway Tavern at 401 Southend Lane in Bellingham and The Alfred at 178 Sydenham Road. The big Southend Lane retail sites came through clean too, with Lidl and Argos at the Sava Centre both rated 5 on 10 July.

Neighbourhood shops made up much of the rest: the Hither Green Convenience Store on Hither Green Lane, Jeevana Superstore on Brookmill Road in Deptford, Magic Foods on Lewisham Way and the Bestway Cash and Carry on St Mildreds Road all scored 5 in the first week of the month, along with Barvvs, the cafe at 226 Brownhill Road in Catford.

School kitchens all clean

July’s list took in several places feeding children, all rated 5: the Rathfern Breakfast Club at Rathfern Primary School in Catford, Brindishe Lee School Catering on Wantage Road in Lee, Nourish at Oak Gardens Primary School in Deptford, and Heath House Preparatory School in Blackheath, which holds two register entries and took a 5 on both. The Spring Community Cafe at the Lewington Centre also kept its top score.

What it means for you

The hygiene rating is a snapshot of what an inspector found on the day: how food is handled, the condition of the building, and how safety is managed. A 5 means all three were judged up to standard. Every rating in this article links to the business’s own entry on the official register, where you can check the current score before ordering, since ratings can change after any reinspection.
