No Southeastern trains at Lewisham or on the Bexleyheath line on 26 and 27 September, and the DLR to Bank is off the weekend before. The replacement buses.
Lewisham station will close to all Southeastern trains over the weekend of Saturday 26 and Sunday 27 September. Engineering work shuts the station and the whole Bexleyheath line for both days, according to National Rail.
It is the second of two disruptive September weekends for the town centre. The weekend before, 19 and 20 September, the DLR closes between Bank and Lewisham (TfL planned track closures). Anyone who relies on Lewisham’s rail links should plan both weekends now.
26 and 27 September: the station shuts
The closure covers more than Lewisham itself. Eight stations close for the weekend and are served only by bus:
- Lewisham
- Blackheath
- Kidbrooke
- Eltham
- Falconwood
- Welling
- Bexleyheath
- Barnehurst
Accessible replacement buses run between New Cross and Dartford via Bexleyheath, calling at all stations. For local journeys, National Rail points to ordinary London buses as alternatives: the 21, 225 and 273 between Hither Green and Lewisham, and the P4, 284 and 122 between Lewisham and Ladywell. Victoria to Dartford services and the Sidcup, Hayes, Grove Park and Woolwich lines are all affected in part, so check your specific journey before travelling (National Rail).
The DLR is not part of that weekend’s work, so Lewisham’s DLR platforms stay open even while the main line station is shut.
19 and 20 September: no DLR to Bank
The reverse applies the weekend before. On Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 September the DLR closes between Bank and Lewisham, along with Tower Gateway to Canning Town and Canary Wharf to Stratford (TfL planned track closures, published 28 August 2026). Southeastern trains from Lewisham run that weekend, so the mainline is the way into town.
This Sunday: Sydenham loses its Windrush trains
A smaller one lands first. On Sunday 6 September the Windrush line closes between Sydenham and West Croydon all day, and from 19:15 the closure widens to the whole route from Highbury & Islington to Crystal Palace, New Cross and West Croydon. Late-evening closures between Sydenham and West Croydon follow after 22:15 from Monday 7 to Thursday 10 September (TfL planned track closures).
What it means for you
- Commute from Lewisham? You lose the DLR to Bank on 19 and 20 September, then every Southeastern train on 26 and 27 September. On the second weekend, the DLR still runs.
- Blackheath is shut on 26 and 27 September too, along with the whole Bexleyheath line out to Barnehurst. The replacement bus runs from New Cross to Dartford, calling at all stations.
- Sydenham this Sunday: no Windrush trains towards Crystal Palace or West Croydon; Southeastern services at Sydenham are unaffected.
- Further ahead: some trains will not call at Charing Cross or Waterloo East on 10 and 11 October, the next follow-up from the summer’s £20 million upgrade (Network Rail). And if you paid extra to travel during the summer closure, Southeastern’s refund form closes on 30 September.
